The Cold War: class-based conflict on a global scale

Listen now: Brian Becker, a national leader of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, explains the so-called “Cold War,” the half-century conflict between the United States and other imperialists against the socialist countries struggling to break free from colonial and imperialist domination. The Cold War period is marked by both hot wars and cold wars, but most importantly was a class-based conflict between the workers and oppressed on one side and the bosses on the other. This, of course, contrasts with war based on inter-imperialist rivalry exemplified in First and Second World Wars.

Winning reforms and fighting for revolutionary change

Listen now: Brian Becker, a national leader of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, reviews the similarities and differences in tactics between reformist and revolutionary perspectives. While revolutionaries must fight for reforms, the revolutionary is distinct in making it clear who the class enemy is, and that it is the strength of the movement that wrestles concessions from them – as opposed to the reformist view that promotes the idea that the interests of the working and capitalist classes can be reconciled. This discussion will help organizers in understanding this key distinction that is key to winning revolutionary change.

The Sino-Soviet split and its meaning today

Listen now: Brian Becker, a national leader of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, discusses the Sino-Soviet split that began in the 1960s with its underpinnings in differing approaches on survival against U.S. imperialist threats. The pressures of imperialism resulted in a split – first ideologically and later state-to-state – between these sister socialist nations. China moved towards the influence of U.S. imperialism and the USSR became more isolated. This history is important for progressives and revolutionaries to understand today as the United States continues its threats against Russia and its maneuvers to destabilize and overthrow the Communist Party-led government of China.
